Select Text Vertically in Microsoft Word

The norm while selecting text in Microsoft Word is usually horizontal selection.
Users are more accustomed to horizontally selecting texts in lines, paragraphs etc, and when it comes to a vertical selection, most of them have no clue about it.

Microsoft Word allows users to select text vertically as well.

The following figures show examples of Horizontal text selection and Vertical text selection respectively.

To achieve a vertical selection, users must Press and Hold the ALT key and drag your mouse downwards to highlight the wanted text.

Note: I tried the above stuff in Office 2000. You can give it a shot for other versions of Office.
